TATTERSHALL WITH THORPE FLOOD PROTECTION, LAND DRAINAGE, IRRIGATION AND WATER MANAGEMENT

The Environment Agency is responsible for the Rivers Witham and Bain, and is funded by Government plus levies on County Council and Witham Third District Internal Drainage Board; and also by The General Drainage Charge on all farm land outside the Drainage Board rated area.

W3IDB is responsible for the Park Beck and its tributaries to the caravan park on Lodge Road, Mill Drain and some ‘tributaries’, Carr Drain, the disused Horncastle Canal, Picnic Site drain, Ings Drain, Bain soke dyke and operates electric pumping stations at Marsh Lane, Dogdyke and Coninsgby Ings, (which takes water from Carr Drain). It is also responsible for maintaining certain local levels for two SSSI’s.  The Board is funded by Special levy on East Lindsey District Council for the relevant part of W3IDB within ELDC in respect of non-agricultural properties, plus direct rates on farm land.

The Environment Agency Water Resources Section controls all abstraction licences, including abstraction of irrigation for which it makes substantial annual charges, whether used or not, by what is called a Two Part Tariff.
