Since May the Parish Council have been busy as
usual and the following information just lets you know what they
have all been up to.
Quality
Parish Council Status:
Well, after lots of hard work,
and many changes which every Councillor has had to go along with,
the Parish Council has achieved Quality Status, being only the third
Council in Lincolnshire to do so. This recognises the hard work
which the Parish Council continually does, working to make
Tattershall with Thorpe a better place.
Highways Matters:
Have you noticed the road works lately? The new
turning lane has now been completed at Castlefields and will
alleviate traffic congestions at key times in the day, making this
fast route a lot safer.
Bus
Shelters:
There are two new bus shelters in the parish.
The first is in the Market Place, which will help keep everyone dry
during these cold months. The school buses have been diverted to
pick up at the new shelter too, so no more excuses for wet children
arriving at school! The second is in Tattershall Thorpe. This one
replaces the old shelter which met an unfortunate end one winter
when a car tried to keep warm inside it!! (Unsuccessfully I might
add). The existing bus shelter in Tattershall Thorpe has been
planted out very kindly by members of the Parish Council who
continue to maintain it to a high standard, which was recognised in
the recent Best Kept Village Competition. Even the new one has a
few shrubs bursting out, making it look fabulous.
Memorial
Gates:
The Memorial Gates at the Chapel in Tattershall
Thorpe had their birthday recently, being painted to make them
sparkle once again, just in time for Remembrance Day, which was very
well attended and hugely successful.
Parish Dinner:
This year Shelley and Leigh Garland from
Tattershall Castle were guests at the prestigious Annual Parish
Dinner. Successful yet again, with a full house and superb food,
the raffle keeping everyone excited throughout the night. The
Manning Trophy was also presented at the dinner, this year to Mrs.
Rudd from Tattershall Thorpe for all her tremendous voluntary work
carried out in the community.
Annual
Accounts:
The annual accounts of the Parish Council for
the Year Ended 31st March 2005 are now complete having
been audited by Moore Stephens and having received a promising
report.
Footpath
Walking:
This year saw many members of the Parish
Council together with members of the public, walking all three
footpaths relevant to the parish of Tattershall and Tattershall
Thorpe. This is an annual event and a report is forwarded to the
Footpath Officer to enable them to maintain the footpaths to a good
standard. Anyone is welcome to join in, setting off from the Market
Place throughout the months of July/August, weather permitting. A
refreshment stop at local pubs is very favourable.
Flag Flying at
Tattershall
Well this is really taking off!! Flag flying
for every occasion this year has helped to raise £200.00 for local
charities, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air
Ambulance, being the latest recipients.
Annual
Best Kept
Garden
Competition:
This year saw some wonderful displays for the
annual competition, where the Rose Bowl Trophy is awarded to the
winner of the ‘Standard Garden’ category and the new addition of the
‘Barrack Trophy’ being awarded to the ‘Smaller/Container Garden’
category. Certificates are awarded to 1st, 2nd
and 3rd placed gardens in each category. So come on you
budding gardeners, start to prepare your gardens for next years
competition.
Trafalgar
Day:
Both Tattershall and Tattershall Thorpe
celebrated Trafalgar Day. Tattershall had a night walk around
Tattershall Castle, kindly opened by Shelley Garland for the
evening. A bonfire followed at Tattershall, where mulled wine and
biscuits were enjoyed. Tattershall Thorpe celebrated at Thorpe Camp
Visitor Centre, starting with a Bonfire and homemade soup for all,
and sparklers for the children. This was followed by an excellent
quiz night and games evening organised by the Thorpe Trafalgar
Committee, bring the whole community together. Both events were
excellent.
Community
Web
Site:
The Parish Council and Clerk have been working
very hard getting the Web Site up and running and this is now
starting to look quite wonderful. This is to be a ‘one stop shop’
for the parish with a specific area for the Parish Council. If you
would like to apply for free space on the site please contact either
Barracks Post Office or Tracy Wall (Clerk) on 01526 344229 or email
