Tattershall with Thorpe Parish Council Annual Footpath walking 2010

222 Market Place to church, then river bank.

This path has recently had some work done on it – a hard surface has been laid from the church to the Gibson Cut bank, and then to the sluice bridge on the River Bain. Very favourable comments have been made by local people who can now access the river bank easily. We wonder whether the heavy equipment used by the drainage board will cause any damage to the sides of the path – the outside edges are not flat or consolidated.

There has also been work done to raise the profile of the bank from the bailey bridge towards the new bridge near Dogdyke. This section of the path was the only one which would benefit from mowing. The rest of the path is well used, and has been cut.

225 Butts Bridge – Wharfe Lane

This path runs through fields and across Mason’s Lane to Wharfe Lane. The gates at the entry from Butts Lane and those at Mason’s Lane are in good order. All sections of the path are well walked, and no work is needed.

226 Mason’s Lane – Thorpe Road

This path crosses fields which are under cultivation. At the time of walking, there was evidence that the width of the path had not been reinstated after planting – it was very narrow in a lot of places. Since walking, the path has been widened. The stiles at the old railway crossing have decayed, but there is free access for walkers.

174 Lodge Road – Kirkby on Bain

The path goes around Lodge Farm buildings at the start, and in places could be difficult to negotiate. It then follows a hedge line, until it reaches a bridge over the old railway line. The trees could be cut back over the bridge, and also along the wood side. From Tattershall Carr to Tattershall Thorpe the path is along a wide farm track, and has no problems. It then crosses a field towards Annpasture Lane. The path had been newly reinstated through the field. From Annpasture Lane the path goes along a track, then over a boardwalk – overgrown in places. The track passes between fishing lakes, with the footpath next to it. Few walkers use the path, as the track is wide and easier to walk. No problems were encountered along this section.
