Tattershall with Thorpe Parish Council Annual Footpath walking 2007

Tattershall with Thorpe Parish Council Annual Footpath walking 2007

Path 222 - Market place to Bain bank

The river bank section of this path is benefiting from more regular cutting than in the past, and is regularly used by walkers. There is a problem behind the bowling green, where the concrete path is being overtaken by the compost heap next to it, and there are large quantities of overhanging nettles, so walkers are forced to use the grass.   The path needs waymarking from behind the church.  It is marvellous news that the footbridge over the Bain, has recently been re-instated, which means that walkers have access to Dogdyke.

Path 225 - Market Place to Clinton Park, then Butts Bridge to Wharf Lane, Masons Lane to Tattershall Thorpe.

The first section of path, behind Willows Ct, has been made up by the developer, and is an asset. The path then reverts to a field path, before passing through the bungalows and onto a concrete path. The short section would benefit from being made up to complete the whole stretch. The public continues to ignore the path route through the bungalows, and uses the field – a more direct route, so one wonders whether the field side should become the true path.

Butts Bridge to Wharf Lane. This section is through a field, and well used. As there are frequently cattle which congregate at the gate, there may be a problem with erosion during bad weather, as the mud can be deep and hazardous to walkers.

Masons Lane to Tattershall Thorpe.   At Masons Lane bridge the path needs waymarking to the west.  The street lights are currently obscured by overhanging trees which need cutting back.  This section has been reinstated properly through the crops, and is wide. There are waymarks as it crosses the railway embankment. The path rejoins Thorpe Road, and follows the pavement. The shrubs along the path are in need of trimming, as in places walkers are forced into the road to pass them.

Path 174 - Kirkby on Bain to Tattershall Thorpe, Blue Bell Pub to Lodge Road, Tattershall

Kirkby on Bain to Tattershall Thorpe

The path has been well maintained recently, making it a pleasure to walk.  However, the fence which defines the footpath has broken fence posts, one about half way along the fenced-in area and one at the Kirkby on Bain end of the path, which needs replacing.  There are large quantities of ragwort along the path which need removing.

Bluebell Pub to Lodge Road, Tattershall

The footpath to Tattershall Carr and beyond, passes through a number of fields and is well marked and well maintained, with the exception of a tree which has split open and has fallen across the footpath alongside the old railway track.  This needs cutting off.  On the approach to Lodge Farm there is no waymarking whatsoever and it is difficult to pick out the footpath as the field is very heavily overgrown.  The path disappears entirely at Lodge Farm.
