Finance:
In this financial year the Council is pleased to have been able to make
grants and donations to the amount of £360, distributed within this
financial year to local organisations and charities.
The Flag Flying
experience is always popular and local people are being recognised
without their knowledge sometimes. Congratulations to all those who
have had the flag flown in their
honour for
whatever reason, major birthdays and even achievements have been
recognised throughout this year. This has raised a further £100 towards
local charities!! If you would like to have either the Union Jack or
the St. Georges flag flown for your special occasion, contact Gill Shaw
on 01526 342509.
Finance Meeting:
The Parish Council Finance Committee meeting is held in November, when
the budgets for the forthcoming year are set and any requests from
residents and community groups within the parish are considered. Should
you wish the Council to consider funding local charities or projects
which are for the benefit of the community please contact the Clerk.
Annual Parish
Footpath Walking:
Walking the parish paths is always an enjoyable event when members of
the Council and public join together, dogs too, and walk all four parish
footpaths during the summer months culminating with drinks at one of our
local pubs. Any areas which need attention are reported to the Footpath
Officer at Lincolnshire County Council, who works closely with the
Council to ensure that safety is maintained. Why not join in the fun
and walk along the footpaths to discover the local wildlife and
beautiful scenery which Tattershall with Thorpe has to offer. For
details of dates etc please contact the parish
clerk or see the
notice boards.
Flood Wardens:
The Council is very pleased to have three dedicated flood wardens on the
team, who are there to keep a close eye on the ever changing British
weather. They are Councillor P. Barrack, who can be contacted at the
Post Office on 01526 342822 or 01526 342165, Cllr. R. Pick (Deputy
Safety Officer) 01526 343298 and finally Mr. D. Shaw, who can be
contacted on 01526 342509. If you have any safety issues which urgently
need addressing please do not hesitate to contact any of the Safety Team
detailed above.
Tree Warden:
Mr James Roberts is the parish Tree Warden. If you would like to raise
any matter regarding trees in the parish, do please give him a call on
01526 342070.
Web Site:
The web site is
full of useful local information, including history, photographs, events
and parish council news too. Visit the site at:
www.tattershallwiththorpe.co.uk to find out more. You
may even have information you would like to contribute to the site.
Contact: Mr. P. Barrack on 01526 342822 or Mr J. Roberts on 01526
342070.
Cleaning:
The Councillors
all work very hard cleaning, particularly the bus shelter in the Market
Place, and litter picking around the village, and on occasion members of
the public and children have helped along the way.
Best Kept Village
Competition was once again entered into by Tattershall and
Tattershall Thorpe. Councillors and members of the public made a
concerted effort to make both villages more attractive but unfortunately
didn’t quite score enough to get through to the next round. Let’s hope
we do better in 2010.
The Best Kept
Garden Competition is always a favourite as this competition is kept
completely anonymous. The Rose Bowl Trophy is awarded annually to the
winning garden in the ‘Standard Garden’ category, and the Barrack Trophy
to the winner of the ‘Container Garden’ Category. This year the
standard garden category was won by Mr & Mrs Lane and the container
garden by Mr & Mrs Holt Last year Tattershall Thorpe had their own
competition, the Blue Bell Inn Trophy which was won by Mr & Mrs
Mackinder. If you would like to have your garden judged for next year,
start sprucing up your front garden and making it look eye catching and
well maintained. Who knows, there could be a judge looking at your
splendour in the summer of 2010!!! Watch the notice boards for results
during August and September.
Parish Plan:
The Parish Plan
Steering group has been very busy finalising the Parish Plan ready to go
the printers. It is hoped that this document will be launched soon and
will be available on line and in the local library.
Chairman’s
Report:
Over the autumn and
winter months we have had three changes of parish councillors and I must
take this opportunity to thank Mrs B Wayman, Mrs P Day and Mrs B Abbiss
for their contribution to the parish and welcome the new councilors Mr P
Hogg, Mrs H Kay and Mrs P Roberts. Councillors continue to attend
training events keeping abreast of current legislation and also
regularly volunteer to clean areas of the villages.
The Annual Dinner
was well supported and approximately 80 people enjoyed an evening with
the speaker Mr Barrie Haynes talking about his life on the buses. The
Manning Trophy was also presented at this event and Mr D Shaw was the
surprise recipient.
The Community
Access Point continues to be the home of the Parish Office and is
now manned by our new Clerk Mrs Karen Elliott, where she works in
partnership with other government services. Parish Office opening hours
are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.30am until 12.30pm. The parish
Council meetings are held in the Library on the first Tuesday of each
month except January and August.
The annual
footpath walking took place during the summer months and by and
large the footpaths were found to be in a reasonably good order. A full
report to their condition was sent to the County Council. More dog
waste bins have been installed on the public footpaths in our parishes.
Footpath improvements have been carried out by the County Council
following Parish Council recommendations.
In the Best Kept
Village Competition Tattershall achieved high marks 102 out of 120
but were not fortunate enough to get through to the next round.
Tattershall Thorpe being past winners in 2006 are in a separate
competition which is judged in August. In 2009 the Best Kept Garden
Winners were Mr & Mrs Lane, Mr & Mrs Holt and Mr & Mrs Mackinder.
Presentations were made to each winner.
The refuge on the
A153 has been enlarged and it is hoped that this will improve safety at
this point of our very busy road.
The Parish Plan
Steering group has been very busy finalising the Parish Plan ready to go
the printers. It is hoped that this document will be launched soon and
delivered to every home within the two villages.
The new format of
the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony which proved successful last
year was again very popular with over two hundred residents supporting
the event. More lights were purchased to decorate the tree and the
service following the switch on was well attended. All in all a real
community occasion.
We have dealt with
two large and controversial planning applications endeavouring to
represent the views of the residents to the best of our ability.
Overall, this has
been a demanding but hugely enjoyable year.
Richard Pick
Chairman.
