Finance:
In this financial year the Council is pleased to have been able to make
grants and donations to the amount of £746, distributed within this
financial year to local organisations and charities.
The Flag Flying
experience is always popular and local people are being recognised without
their knowledge sometimes. Congratulations to all those who have had the
flag flown in their
honour for
whatever reason, major birthdays and even achievements have been recognised
throughout this year. This has raised a further £200 towards local
charities!! If you would like to have either the Union Jack or the St.
Georges flag flown for your special occasion, contact Gill Shaw on 01526
342509.
Finance Meeting:
The Parish Council Finance Committee meeting is held in November, when the
budgets for the forthcoming year are set and any requests from residents and
community groups within the parish are considered. Should you wish the
Council to consider funding local charities or projects which are for the
benefit of the community please contact the Clerk.
Annual Parish Footpath
Walking:
Walking the parish paths is always an enjoyable event when members of the
Council and public join together, dogs too, and walk all four parish
footpaths during the summer months. Any areas which need attention are
reported to the Footpath Officer at Lincolnshire County Council, who works
closely with the Council to ensure that safety is maintained. Why not join
in the fun and walk along the footpaths to discover the local wildlife and
beautiful scenery which Tattershall with Thorpe has to offer.
Flood Wardens:
The Council is very pleased to have three dedicated flood wardens on the
team, who are there to keep a close eye on the ever changing British
weather. They are Councillor P. Barrack, who can be contacted at the Post
Office on 01526 342822 or 01526 342165, Cllr. R. Pick (Deputy Safety
Officer) 01526 343298 and finally Mr. D. Shaw, who can be contacted on 01526
342509. If you have any safety issues which urgently need addressing please
do not hesitate to contact any of the Safety Team detailed above.
Tree Warden:
Mrs Dinah Emmitt is the parish Tree Warden. If you would like to raise any
matter regarding trees in the parish, do please give her a call on 01526
342704.
Web Site:
The web site is full of
useful local information, including history, photographs, events and parish
council news too. Visit the site at:
www.tattershallwiththorpe.co.uk to find out more. You may
even have information you would like to contribute to the site. Contact:
Mr. P. Barrack on 01526 342822 or Mr J. Roberts on 01526 342070.
Cleaning:
The Councillors all work
very hard cleaning, particularly the bus shelter in the Market Place, and
litter picking around the village, and on occasion members of the public and
children have helped along the way.
Best kept Village
Competition
was once again entered into by Tattershall and Tattershall Thorpe.
Councillors and members of the public made a concerted effort to make both
villages more attractive but unfortunately didn’t quite score enough to get
through to the next round. Lets hope we do better next year.
The Best Kept Garden
Competition
is always a favourite as this competition is kept completely anonymous. The
Rose Bowl Trophy is awarded annually to the winning garden in the ‘Standard
Garden’ category, and the Barrack Trophy to the winner of the ‘Container
Garden’ Category. This year the large garden category was won by Mr and Mrs
Dodd and the small garden by Mr. and Mrs. Higgins. Last year Tattershall
Thorpe had their own competition which was won by Mr and Mrs Lane. If you
would like to have your garden judged for next year, start sprucing up your
front garden and making it look eye catching and well maintained. Who
knows, there could be a judge looking at your splendour in the summer of
2009!!! Watch the notice board for results during August and September.
Parish Plan:
The Parish Plan is
almost complete and results of the survey will shortly be available.
Chairman’s Report:
In April Cllr Paul
Maltby resigned as councillor due to a heavy workload and family
responsibilities and the casual vacancy was filled by Mrs Caroline Dawson,
then in November it was with much regret that Cllr Bert Barrack tendered his
resignation due to ill health after many years of loyal service.
The Annual Dinner was a
‘sell out’ with approximately 85 people attending. This year the speaker
was the extremely vociferous Judy Theobald from Radio Lincolnshire who kept
her audience highly entertained. The presentation of the Manning Trophy
took place after the dinner and this year it was awarded to the Coningsby
and Tattershall First Responders.
In June the new
Community Access Point opened to the public and the
clerk moved in to the
Parish Office, where she works in partnership with other government
services. Parish Council meetings are now held in the
library area on the first Tuesday of each month with the exception of
January and August.
The annual footpath
walking took place during the summer months and by and large the footpaths
were found to be in reasonably good order. A full report of their condition
was sent to the County Council. A dog waste bin has been installed on the
public footpath near the Blue Bell in Tattershall Thorpe.
In the
Best Kept Village
competition, both Tattershall and Tattershall Thorpe achieved high marks,
142 and 146 points out of 150 points respectively. This year the Best Kept
Garden competition was won by Mr and Mrs C Dodd of
7 Sleaford Road
and the small garden category was won by Mr and Mrs G Higgins of 22 Lodge
Park Homes. Tattershall Thorpe’s own competition was won by Mr and
Mrs G Lane
and the Blue Bell Inn trophy was presented to them at Thorpe’s annual ‘Meet
the Neighbours’ event.
After lengthy
discussions, a proposal has been submitted to enlarge the refuge on the A153
(opposite Janet’s hairdressers) in addition to other safety works and this
will take place within the next six months.
Under the Heritage
Economic Regeneration Scheme work has been carried out to various buildings
around the Market Place including the Richard Sivill Gallery, John &
Associates and the Millennium Dragon.
The Parish Plan Steering
Group has been extremely busy and questionnaires were distributed to every
household. Results of the survey are expected shortly.
This year it was decided
to change the style of the Christmas tree lighting ceremony which proved to
be a huge success, with around 200 people of all ages turning out.
Following the usual tree lighting ceremony, a police escorted candlelight
procession wound its way to the castle where the celebrations continued with
carol singing and entertainment from the children. All in all this proved
to be a real community spirited occasion and plans are being made for a
similar event next year.
Overall, this has been a
demanding but hugely enjoyable year.
