Finally:
Parish Council meetings are held monthly (except August and
January) at the Community Access Point and Library, starting at
7.15pm on the first Tuesday of each month. It is always a pleasure
to see members of the public attending the meetings, as the
Council members then know that they are working for the parish
and its residents and are able to continue making Tattershall
with Thorpe an up and coming community for all to enjoy. So, if
you have anything you wish to be discussed by the Council,
please submit details in writing to the Clerk: Mrs. J. Girling,

Finance: In this financial year the Council is pleased to
have been able to make grants and donations to the amount of
£497, distributed within this financial year to local
organisations and charities.
The
Flag Flying experience is becoming ever popular and local
people are being recognised without their knowledge
sometimes. Congratulations to all those who have had the
flag flown in their honour for
whatever reason, major birthdays and even achievements have
been recognised throughout this year. This has raised a
further £100 towards local charities!! If you would like to
have either the Union Jack or the St. Georges flag flown for
your special occasion, contact Gill Shaw on 01526 342509.
Finance
Meeting: The Parish Council Finance Committee meet in
November, when the budgets for the forthcoming year are set
and any requests from residents and community groups within
the parish are considered. Should you wish the Council to
consider funding local charities or projects which are for
the benefit of the community please contact the Clerk.
Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony with Carols.
This event
marked the beginning of the Christmas festivities. Carols
were sung around the tree by school children from
Tattershall Primary School and Holy Trinity Primary School.
Annual Parish Footpath Walking: The most memorable event was the long awaited installation
of the footbridge over the River Bain, finally giving
walkers access to Dogdyke. An opening ceremony was held in
June to mark the occasion. Walking the parish paths is
always an enjoyable event when members of the Council and
public join together, dogs too, and walk all four parish
footpaths during the summer months. Any areas which need
attention are reported to the Footpath Officer at
Lincolnshire County Council, who works closely with the
Council to ensure that safety is maintained. Why not join
in the fun and walk along the footpaths to discover the
local wildlife and beautiful scenery Tattershall with Thorpe
has to offer.
Flood Wardens:
The Council is very pleased to have three dedicated flood
wardens on the team, who are there to keep a close eye on the
ever changing British weather. They are Councillor P. Barrack,
who can be contacted at the Post Office on 01526 342822 or 01526
342165, Cllr. R. Pick (Deputy Safety Officer) 01526 343298 and
finally Mr. D. Shaw, who can be contacted on 01526 342509. If
you have any safety issues which urgently need addressing please
do not hesitate to contact any of the Safety Team detailed
above.
Tree Warden:
Mrs Dinah Emmitt was appointed as the new Tree Warden. If
you would like to raise any matter regarding trees in the
parish, do please give her a call on 01526 342704.
Web Site:
The Parish Web Site is up and running and is updated
on a regular basis. The web site is full of useful local
information, including history, photographs, events and
parish council news too. Visit the site at:
www.tattershallwiththorpe.co.uk to find out
more. You may even have information you would like to
contribute to the site. Contact: Mr. P. Barrack on 01526
342822 or Mr J. Roberts on 01526 342070.
Cleaning:
The Councillors all work very hard cleaning, particularly
the bus shelter in the Market Place, and litter picking
around the village, and on occasion members of the public
and children have helped along the way.
Competitions:
Best kept Village Competition was once again entered into by Tattershall and Tattershall
Thorpe. Councillors and members of the public made a
concerted effort to make both villages more attractive.
Tattershall had a very good competition once again, but
unfortunately didn’t quite score enough to get through to
the next round. Tattershall Thorpe however were runners up
in the Past Winners Class and they were presented with a
certificate.
he Best Kept Garden Competition is always a favourite as this competition is kept completely
anonymous. The Rose Bowl Trophy is awarded annually to the
winning garden in the ‘Standard
Garden’ category, and the Barrack Trophy to the winner of
the ‘Container
Garden’ Category. This year the large garden category was
won by Mr and Mrs Plowman and the small garden by Mr. and
Mrs. Walker. Last year Tattershall Thorpe had their own
competition which was won by Mr and Mrs Hanson. If you
would like to have your garden judged for next year, start
sprucing up your front garden and making it look eye
catching and well maintained. Who knows, there could be a
judge looking at your splendour in the summer of 2008!!!
Watch the notice board for results during August and
September.
Manning Trophy:
The Manning
Trophy for 2007-2008 was awarded to Coningsby & Tattershall
First Responders and was presented at the Annual Dinner.
The Manning Trophy is awarded annually to the individual or
organisation that in the opinion of the judges has made a
significant contribution to the community worthy of formal
recognition.
Parish Plan:
During the
autumn the Council decided to hold an open meeting to
discuss the feasibility of producing a Parish Plan.
Following on from this a steering committee was formed
comprising mainly of residents plus two council members.
The plan will take several months to come to fruition and it
is hoped that more residents will come forward to lend a
hand.
Chairman’s
Report:
May began
with the Parish Council elections. Tattershall with Thorpe
put up a full compliment of candidates, thereby ensuring the
continuation of our quality status. Councillors Ken Newholm
and John Porter did not stand for re-election but we were
joined by Councillors Pam Day, Brenda Abbiss and Graham
Harness.
Approximately 100 people attended the Parish Dinner. This
year the speaker was Alan Stennett. The Manning Trophy was
presented after the dinner and this year was awarded to
Tattershall Luncheon Club.
The annual footpath walking took place during the summer and
by and large the footpaths were found to be in reasonably
good order. An application was made to the aggregate Levy
Board for a grant to obtain seats to be placed on the Kirkby
on Bain footpath and also for money to produce footpath
leaflets. I am pleased to report we were successful and the
seats are now in place.
The new footbridge over the River Bain was completed and the
Council had an opening ceremony at the site to mark the
occasion. It does appear that the new facility is very well
used.
In the
Best Kept
Village competition, Tattershall Thorpe again did very well.
This year we were runner up in the Past Winners section. This
really was an achievement as this year we were up against much
larger villages than ourselves. Well done to everyone. The
Best Kept Garden competition was this year won by Philip and
Sylvia Plowman of 33 Lodge Road, Tattershall and the small
garden event was won by Stephen and Louise Walker of
8 Castle View, Tattershall. Tattershall Thorpe’s own
competition was again won by Mr and Mrs Hanson and it was
presented at Thorpe’s annual ‘Meet the Neighbours’ event in
the autumn.
During the summer new dog waste bins were installed, public
seats repainted and also the bus shelter at Tattershall Thorpe
had a fresh coat of paint.
Possibly the most notable event of the summer was the floods
which caused so much damage throughout the whole area.
Tattershall, I am happy to say, escaped virtually unscathed but
our thanks must go to our Flood Wardens for their constant
vigilance during this trying period.
Last autumn the Clerk vacated the Parish Office in order to
make way for the refurbishment of the library and the
construction of a new Library and Community Access Point. It
was hoped to move back this April, but timescales seem to have
shifted a little. However over the winter period the Clerk has
gained her Certificate in Local Council Administration. Well
done to her!
During the winter a Parish Plan Steering Group Committee was
set up. It is hoped that all residents will be consulted in the
coming months as to their thoughts for the way forward for the
parish.
The Christmas Tree lighting ceremony took place as usual,
although this year the local primary schools did not actively
participate. Next year there are plans for a different format.
Overall I think much has been achieved in the past year.
